GENESIS
The Faculty of Engineering and Technology was established in 1945. The following Professors headed the Mathematics Section.
  1. Dr. V. Rengachari (1945-1965)
  2. Dr. G. Sankaranarayanan (1965-1982)
  3. Dr. P.A. Jayaraj (1982-1994)
  4. Dr. AR. Meenakshi (1994-1998)
  5. Dr. N. Renganathan (1998-2001)
  6. Dr. K. Vairamanickam (2001 – 2010)
  7. Prof. A. Chockalingam (2010 – till date )

The major thrust areas of the Mathematics Section are Fuzzy Bi-topological spaces, Matrix Transformation in sequence spaces, Mathematical modeling in Bio-Fluid Mechanics, Transport processes and Epidemics, Stochastic process queuing theory, Automata theory and Computation, Wavelet and its Applications.
The staff of the Mathematics Section of Faculty of Engineering and Technology teach Mathematics to the students of all branches of Engineering and Technology at UG and PG level for both Regular and Part time.
A common syllabus is followed for all the branches of B.E. in the First Year.  Mathematics-I is taught in the first year which comprises of Matrices, Differential calculus, Differential Equations, Vector Calculus, Vector Integration, Complex Variable, Complex Integration and Laplace Transforms.
Mathematics-II comprising of Fourier Series, PDE, Boundary value problems, Fourier transform, Z-Transform is taught to the B.E. students of all branches in the third semester.
Mathematics-III comprising of Probability and random variables, Random Process, Test of Significance, Design of Experiments and Statistical Quality Control and Reliability engineering is taught to the students of B.E. Civil, Civil & Structural, Mechanical and Production and Chemical and for the students of B.E. Electrical and Electronics, Electronics and Communication & Electronics and Instrumentation, the syllabus comprising of Probability and random variables, Random Process, Test of Significance, Interpolation, Solution of Algebraic and Transcendental Equations is taught in the IV Semester.

Discrete Mathematical Structures is taught to the students of B.E. Computer Science and Information Technology in the fourth semester, comprising of Set Theory, Relations, Functions, Logic, Algebraic Systems, Coding Theory, Lattices and Boolean Algebra and Graph Theory.
Numerical methods and Resource Management Techniques is taught to the students of V Semester B.E. Information Technology and Computer Science and Engineering students.
For students of B.Pharmacy we teach two papers in Mathematics in the first semester.  Remedial mathematics for the students without mathematical background at +2 level and advanced mathematics and bio statistics for the students who have mathematics background at +2 level.
Mathematics is taught to the M.E. students of all branches in the first semester.
Discrete Mathematical structures are taught to the students of MCA in the first semester and Resource management techniques in the third semester.
For B.E. (Part-Time) students of Civil we teach mathematics in the first and Second semester.  For Mechanical (Part-Time) students mathematics is taught in the first, second and fourth semester.  For Chemical (Part-Time) students we teach mathematics in the first semester.
